Planting journal

Log sowings, transplants, problems and harvests for each crop, with photos, season totals and season-vs-season comparisons.

Open a crop's journal

On the Seed Cards view, every card has Journal (opens the crop's journal) and + Add entry (jumps straight to a new entry). On the Timeline, tap the small next to a crop's name. On a phone the journal slides up from the bottom, so you can log things out in the garden.

Entry types

• Sowed: pick Indoors or Direct.
• Transplanted: when seedlings go outside.
• Note and Observation: germination, blossoms, weather, flavor.
• Problem / pest: hornworms, blight, frost damage, and what you did about it.
• Harvest: add an amount and a unit (lb, oz, kg, count or bunches).

Every entry has a date (today by default) and optional notes. Tap Edit or Delete on an entry to change it.

Marking a crop planted logs it for you

When you tick ✓ Mark as Planted on a seed packet, Heirloom adds a Sowed entry with that date and method to the crop's journal automatically.

Photos

Signed in, tap Add photo while adding an entry (up to 4 per entry). Photos are shrunk on your device to save data, and their location (GPS) and camera details are removed before upload. Photos are private: only you can see them, and they're never posted publicly. Photos need an account; entries made while signed out stay text-only.

Viewing photos

Tap any photo in the journal to see it large. The caption shows the crop, entry type and date. Swipe left or right on a phone (or use the ‹ › buttons, or the arrow keys on a computer) to flip through all of that crop's photos. Close it with ✕, the Esc key, or by tapping outside the photo.

Seasons, totals and comparison

Entries are grouped by year. Each season shows a summary: first sowing, transplant, first and last harvest, days from sowing to first harvest, and your total harvest. Open Compare seasons to line up every year side by side, with your best season highlighted.

Signed out vs. signed in

Signed out, journal entries are saved in this browser. When you sign in, they're added to your account automatically, just like your seeds, and then sync to all your devices.

Free keeps 1 journal entry (no photos). Season totals and season-vs-season comparisons are part of Annual and Perennial, along with unlimited entries and photos. See Plans & billing.
